Robert Leroy Green, age 86, a longtime Webb City resident passed away at 6:57 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Mercy Hospital Joplin following a two week illness. He and his wife, Ruth, recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Bob had many interests and hobbies, including fishing, and taking ocean cruises with his wife. He was an outdoor activist implementing public access to Southwest Missouri state bridges for public recreation.
Bob was born November 8, 1928 in Joplin and was raised in Webb City. He graduated from Joplin High School and lettered in Tennis. He graduated from Missouri Southern in 1973. He worked for Miner’s Ice Co., Rogers Machine, and the Vickers Corporation in Joplin and was active in the Vickers Retirees Club. He retired from the Webb Corp. in Webb City after 45 years as chief engineer to pursue his hobbies and to be with friends and family.
Bob served his country as a corporal combat medic with the 28th division 110th Infantry Medical Company attached to the Second Battalion Company E in the European Theatre during the Korean War. He is a member of the Webb City American Legion Post 322. He was a supportive father to his sons as members of the Webb City Boy Scout Troop 29 as they both were members of the Order of the Arrow, and reached their Eagle Scout.
Bob is survives by his wife Ruth, two sons, Roger Green and wife Jeanne, Williamsburg, Va., and Richard Green, Tulsa, Ok. one brother, Gerald Green, Indianapolis, In. and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Emily Green, both of Williamsburg, Va.
Bob’s wishes were to be cremated. No formal services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City, Mo.
