Emerald Leroy “Pete” Tiller, 91, Carthage, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 surrounded by his family. Pete was born July 30, 1923 in Jasper County, MO; the son of the late Roy Tiller and Faye Bruffett Tiller. Pete was a graduate of Jasper High School, Class of 1940. He married Betty Louise Danner on August 20, 1944 in Pittsburg, Kansas. Pete and Betty owned and operated Tiller Construction, the Jasper Lumber Co. and he was appointed by Governor Mel Carnahan as the fee agent for the Carthage License Bureau for twelve years. He was a member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene and the Jasper County Democrat Club.
Survivors include three daughters; Bonnie (George) Earl, Carthage, Janet (Tim) Atnip, Jasper and Debbie (Steve) Hensley, Carthage. He loved his six grandchildren; Hallie Earl (Paul) Young, Jeremy (Jaime) Atnip, Brad (Sarah) Atnip, Adam (Allison) Atnip, Dustin Hensley, and Amanda Hensley (Brad) Fosdick. His ten great grandchildren were a joy; Kylen Young, Dalton Young, Larissa Atnip, Hadley Atnip, Clayton Atnip, Natalie Grant, Addison Atnip, Garrett Atnip, Baylor Leroy Hensley, and Macy Fosdick.
He dearly loved his caregiver Leslie Kincaid and her husband Rob Kincaid. His family is so grateful for their love and care so he could stay in his own home.
Funeral services were held at Thursday, March 26 at the Grand Avenue Church of God. Interment followed at Hackney Cemetery, NE of Carthage.
