Thomas Wishart

Thomas William Wishart, 66, of Pittsburg died March 6, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital. 

He was born December 20, 1948 to William and Mary Wishart in Eureka, Kansas. He grew up in West Mineral, KS; and was active in 4-H where he enjoyed showing his prized angus, Honey Bee at the Cherokee County fair each year. He attended Southeast High School and graduated from Pittsburg State University. After graduation, he married Delores Renn, of Pittsburg, on August 13, 1971. In 1972 he began a 23 year career in retail management with K-Mart serving in stores in Kansas City, KS; St. Louis, MO; and several Chicago suburbs in Illinois. While living in Schaumburg, Illinois, their son, Kris was born in 1982. In 1995, he brought his family back to Pittsburg to be near family and friends once more. At that time Tom owned and operated a UPS store on 32nd Street in Joplin, MO for 10 years retiring in 2005. 

For many years, Tom and Delores enjoyed square dancing and frequent family trips to Disney World and the Orlando area. For many years, Tom also enjoyed annual fall vacations all over the U.S. with his brother Jim. Music, including singing in Barbershop choruses and choirs, became his passion when he returned to Pittsburg. He had performed with several bell choirs in the area. He was currently a member of TriStatesmen Barbershop chorus and Keenagers. He was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, singing in choir and directing chime choir several years. Of all the blessings and joys of his life, the greatest was his twin grandchildren, Lily and James Wishart born March 5, 2012. 

Tom will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Delores, son Kris and Sarah Wishart, grandchildren Lily Anne and James Thomas Wishart of Olathe; brother, Jim and Marta Wishart of Wichita, his Akita, Woobie; and a large extended family and friends. 

A Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday (March 11) at College Heights United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, with Rev. Joshua Gooding officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10 a.m. to sign the register. According to his wishes, Mr. Wishart has been cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the College Heights United Methodist Church and/or the Harmony Foundation International.
