Mary Ellen Moore, age 94, Joplin, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 at a local nursing center after an illness.
Mary was born January 13, 1921 in Joplin to the late Ernest Lea and Ruby Hurtt Lea and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
Mary worked in the health care industry, both at St. John’s Health Care and at Oxford Health, retiring in 1994. Prior to that, she had worked at the former M&O Cigar Company for four years.
She was a faithful member of Central City Christian Church.
Mary married Arthur A. Moore on October 5, 1945 in Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Glassburner, Joplin; a grandson, StevenPaul Patrum, Belleview, Missouri; great granddaughter, Jessica Brower, Joplin; two nieces, Susanne Brown, Georgetown, Texas, Claudine Stanley, Kansas City; cousins, Shirley King and Bonnie Blagg, and special friends that loved her as family, Sherry Frazier, Kay Gilbert, Annette Eagles, Kathy Petty, Cindy Patrum and Susan Filosa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Little, and her brother, Jeff Lea.
A committal service is planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Galena, Kansas. Johnie Adkins, minister, will officiate. Friends and family are welcome to gather together on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Central Christian Center, 417 Main Street in the fellowship hall.
