Danny Lee 'Dan' McMillen, age 54, Joplin, passed away at 12:57 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at his residence after an illness.
Dan was born June 4, 1961 in Webb City, Missouri to the late Charles McMillen and Cloetta Teurrell McMillen and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
Dan worked in the restaurant business as a chef for most of his working life. His cooking career began at Sonic Drive-In and spanned many years at several different restaurants. He was a Sioux Chef at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club; executive chef at the Inn at Grand Glaze, Lake of the Ozarks (where he worked for Stan Musial); chef at La Cocinina Del Puerco, Kansas City and was chef at Club 609 in Joplin.
In his spare time, Dan enjoyed fishing; collecting postcards and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; one son, Daniel McMillen, stationed in Germany; a daughter, Angie, South Carolina; four brothers, Richard McMillen, Joplin, Donald McMillen, Blair, Nebraska, Robert McMillen and his wife, Teresa, Joplin, Freddy McMillen, Joplin; and many extended family members and friends.
A memorial visitation is planned for Wednesday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
