Emma Lee "Emmy" Kingore, age 93, Joplin, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Joplin Gardens, Joplin, MO.
Emma was born August 14, 1924 to Gertrude B. and Arthur A. Farris in Joplin, MO. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1942 and attended Graceland College.
She worked for the Coffeyville Army Air Base from 1943 to 1945 as a Tech Order Clerk. She later worked for Western Auto, Empire District, Coke-a-Cola bottling and E. A. Martin Machinery.
Emma Lee and Joseph Donald Kingore, Sr. were married on Nov. 9, 1947 in Joplin, Mo. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage, before Don’s death in 1998.
She was a former member of Church Women United of Joplin, serving as World Community Day Chairman. A former member of Joplin R-8 Chapter of AFS and was Festival Chairman for 3 years. Her family hosted 2 foreign students, one from Sweden and one from Greece. She was past President of The L'Amitie Club of Joplin. Emma was a Cub Scout Leader and a Girl Scout leader.
Emma Lee worked for the Joplin R-8 School district for 18 yrs. as a Library Asst., A Special Ed. Asst., and then a Secretary for 10 yrs. Emma retired form the Joplin School District in 1985.
Emmy was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church. She served her church as a Sunday School Director, a Choir Director and soloist. She directed Jr. High Girls Church Camps for three years and was her church District Women's Leader. Emma was a member of the Empire District Retirees and Spouses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, a half brother Amos N. Farris and a half sister, Betty Smith and recently her brother Robert E. Farris and granddaughter, Megan (Mejiea) Elliott Wickell.
She is survived by four children, Joseph Donald, Jr. of Joplin, James A. of Webb City, Karen L. Herndon of Wichita, KS and Kyra L. Huffman of Tracy, CA. and one surviving sister Almeda Sullivan of Sequim, WA. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great grand children and 2 great great grandchildren.
Following private services, Celebration of life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House and may be left in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
