Mark Orozco

(From Parker Mortuary)

Mark Anthony Orozco, age 68, passed away suddenly at his home in Joplin, Missouri on April 26, 2022.

Mark was born in Santa Monica, California to Margaret and Ralph Orozco on June 27, 1953. He graduated in 1971 from St. Bernard’s Catholic High School in Playa Del Rey, California. Mark married Joy Lyn Feller on Aug 16, 1975 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Culver City, California. He relocated his family to Joplin in 1988, but was always very proud of his Southern California roots; a Raiders fan through and through.

Mark worked all his life in the trucking industry, most recently for FedEx Freight until he retired 3 years ago. He had no shortage of interests: he loved Star Wars, NASCAR and classic cars. Most recently, he had taken up shooting at the gun range and adding new tropical fish to his aquariums. He loved to spend a sunny day on his boat doing some fishing, and he could usually be found in a destination T-shirt from one of his vacations. He was the life of the party and would strike up a conversation with anyone. Mark was the guy you could call if you needed anything: a ride, help fixing something, bailed out of a Tijuana jail (true story). Mark was a music lover and had an extensive music collection and an impressive stereo system. He blasted classic rock and he made sure to play Alices’s Restaurant every Thanksgiving.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Andrew Orozco, and by his cousin and best friend, Richard Bivona.

He leaves behind a family who he was so proud of and who will miss his presence in their everyday lives: wife, Joy Orozco and their children: Scott Feller and his wife, Theano of Torrance, California; Alysia Merriman and her husband Aaron of Joplin, Missouri; and Christy Bailey and her husband Beau of Paola, Kansas. Grandchildren: Zoe, Demi, Adam, Taylor, Jack, Lucy, Payton, Alyvia and Nathan. As well as a great-grandson he was so excited to meet this summer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 7 at 4PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. All who knew Mark and his family are welcome to attend.
