Edna Green

(From Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home)

Edna Ruth Green moved on to be with our Lord and rejoice with all of the family and friends who preceded her in death at the age of 91 on the evening of December 1, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters, and four brothers along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is survived by her three children: Edna Jean Sluder, Thomas Payne Green, Marilyn Sue Green, her sister Margaret Phillips, her grandchildren; Jeremy Sluder, David Sluder, along their wives and children, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ruth grew up in Miller, Missouri and was a graduate of Miller High School and Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. As a devout Christian she was a member of many different churches throughout her life time and included First Baptist of Miller, Missouri; a founding member of Coal Valley Baptist Church, Coal Valley, Illinois; and most recently First Baptists Church of Walhalla, South Carolina.

Ruth began her career working in the accounting department of banks in Missouri and Illinois but is best know for being a loving wife and mother. Her longest job outside of the home was as the church secretary for Coal Valley Baptist Church.

Ruth is best known for her playful attitude and loving demeanor. All who got to know her quickly learned to appreciate her loving and kind soul. She is known by her nieces and nephews as the “fun” aunt who was always willing to play and enjoy games and would regale all of us with her stories and anecdotes.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm on January 16, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Missouri 602 South Hickory Street Mt. Vernon, MO 65712. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be sent to Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. Online donations can be made by going to mhch.org and clicking on the Give Now button.
