Tommy Proffitt

(From Parker Mortuary)

Thomas Ray Proffitt Jr., known to all as Tommy, brought a lifetime of laughter and joy to the world when he arrived in Albuquerque, NM, on April 8, 1965. On January 4, 2026, Tommy took his final bow in Carl Junction MO, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a trail of smiles that stretched farther than one of his legendary road trips.

Tommy's life was a masterclass in the art of merriment. His 36-year tenure at Stern-Williams as a fabricator wasn't just about shaping plumbing fixtures; it was about molding moments of camaraderie and friendship. He was the unofficial comedian-in-residence, turning the factory floor into a stage for his quick wit and infectious chuckles.

Tommy was a Christian and lived by the Good Book, but he was equally devoted to another set of scriptures – the playbooks of the Kansas City Chiefs. Sundays for Tommy were sacred, a time for faith, family, and football. Even the fish knew to take the day off, as Tommy would be too engrossed in the game to bother with a rod and reel.

To say Tommy was loving, funny, and friendly is like saying the Chiefs play a bit of football – an understatement of epic proportions. He was a man who lived life like it was a comedy special, with each day offering new material for his routine. His passing leaves a void in the world of humor, but his punchlines will echo in the hearts of those who knew him.

Tommy's zest for life was matched only by his love for road trips. He was a pioneer of the scenic route, an explorer of the less traveled roads. Each journey was an opportunity for impromptu comedy, from serenading cows with his best bovine ballads to befriending every feline character along the way. His daughters, Haley and Myra, and his son, Cody, often found themselves on these whimsical adventures, learning from their father that the journey is just as important as the destination.

His brothers, Jack, Steve, and Don, along with his half-brother, Josh, and half-sisters, Sheena and Samantha, knew Tommy as the family's heart and soul. His playful spirit was a glue that kept the family tightly knit, ensuring that even the simplest gatherings were filled with laughter.

Tommy's presence was a gift to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was a man who never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't joked with yet. His dog, Burkley, was his faithful sidekick, often the subject of Tommy's tales and the recipient of his boundless affection.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Proffitt.

So, here's to Tommy – the man who taught us that life is too important to be taken seriously and that the best way to honor him is to live with joy, love unconditionally, and never pass up the chance to moo at a cow. You know what Tom would always say, “Easy Now”.

The visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 12 at 11 a.m. at Parker Mortuary with Pastor Jeff Wary officiating.

The arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
