Henry Williams

Henry N. Williams, 89, of Carthage, MO passed away November 2, 2015, 

Born to Willie and Rosina (Kocher) Williams in Oklahoma City, OK, April 4, 1926. Henry enlisted into the Navy at the age of 17 where he served in WWII, Henry was on the USS Chandler DMS-9 in the Pacific Campaign. Henry returned home from the service to finish high school and graduated from Sarcoxie High School where he met his wife, Velma Williams, they were married March 1, 1947. Henry later enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Leavenworth, KS where he was an MP. With the help of his wife, several of his sons and loyal employees, Henry owned and operated his own successful business, Henry Williams Hauling. Henry was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #501 of Joplin, where he served as Chaplin and was active in BINGO and the Christmas Charity program for many years. He was a member of the Carthage VFW Post # 2590, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. 

With the union of Henry and Velma’s 67 years of marriage they were blessed with 7 boys all surviving. Thomas Williams (Debra) of Avondale, Arizona, Robert (Margaret), Mike (Rhonda), Roger (Roberta) and John Williams all of Carthage, Henry J. (Annie) of Sarcoxie, Mark (Melissa) of Manhattan, KS, 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, also surviving is 1 brother, James “Shorty” (Sandy) Williams of Branson, MO, 2 sisters, Kathryn Williams of Kimberling City, MO, Roseann (Milton) Williamson of Big Spring,TX, 1 brother-in-law, Nelson (Ailene) Williams of Joplin MO, 2 sister-in-laws, Carol Hall of Granby, MO and Norma (Garry) Cantu of Eldorado, KS. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Velma on November 12, 2014, his parents, 2 sisters, Becky Brunner and Clora Mathis, 2 half-brothers, Woodrow Williams and Olef Williams, 2 half-sister, Willa Case and _____, 2 grandchildren Bobbie Tinder and Henry Thomas Williams and one great great granddaughter Gracie. 

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday November 7, 2015 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday November 6, 2015 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Park Cemetery. Contributions can be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Association in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.ulmerfh.com.
