(From Parker Mortuary)Julie E. Smith, age 48, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday, January 18, 2026 following an extended illness. Julie was born August 8, 1977 in Carthage, Missouri to the late Paul D. DeGonia and Glenda Patrick-DeGonia.
Julie was one who always had a smile on her face even during some of the most difficult trials she faced in life. She loved fiercely and was loved by all who knew her.
Julie is survived by her children, Marcus, Willie, Aaron, Glenda and Frankie; brothers, Bill DeGonia (Debbie) of South Dakota, Joseph DeGonia (Eden) of Marshall, Missouri, Paul David DeGonia (Jennifer) of Jay, Oklahoma and Shawn DeGonia of Webb City; sisters, Pam Essig of North Dakota, Tracy Guinn (Marcus) of Webb City and Karen Vance (Clint) of Chanute, Kansas; step sister, Deanna Ferguson (Robert) of Joplin and step-mother, Diana DeGonia of Joplin; plus numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Other than her parents, Julie is preceded in death by a daughter, Elaina.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parker Mortuary for cremation services.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
