Glenroy Greening

Mr. Glenroy D. Greening, 69, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, in the comfort of his home, after a lengthy illness.

Glenroy entered this life on December 5, 1945, in Hannibal, Missouri, born to the union of the late Glen and Helen (Bodine) Greening. He was raised and graduated high school in Laddonia, Missouri. After high school he served his country faithfully in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Glenroy resided in Mexico, Missouri, Springfield and Phoenix, Arizona, before making his home in Joplin. For twenty years he owned and operated The Tire Center in Joplin. His health eventually forced him to retire and sell his business. He enjoyed fishing, but his greatest joy in life came from spending countless hours with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Greening; and one brother, Steve Greening.

Glenroy is survived by his wife, Gail Greening, whom he married on June 10, 1983, in Joplin, Missouri. Additional survivors include his three daughters, Christina Burrows and husband, Michael, of Diamond, Missouri, Heather Greening of Mexico, Missouri and Jennifer Stephens of Joplin, Missouri; two sons, Rodney Dudley and wife, Marjorie, of Joplin and James Dudley and wife, Rebecca, of Carl Junction; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Greg Greening of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Patrick Greening of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Jerry Greening of Joplin, Jeanie Field of Quincy, Illinois, Janice Reynolds of Sarcoxie, Missouri, Mary Beth Kirtlink of Center, Missouri and Leah Kurse of Newton, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Greening are 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri, with Minister Caleb Treat officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Rodney Dudley, Cody Dudley, James Dudley, James Cotton, Jack Highley and Greg Greening. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Memorials are being directed to the Wounded Warrior Project c/o the mortuary.
