Eldon Eugene (Gene) Franklin left this life unexpectedly, Saturday February 27, 2016.
He was born July 27, 1952 in Columbus, Kansas to John E. and Fern Franklin.
Gene was a respected local business owner of Gene's Midwest Auto in Joplin, Missouri for the last 30 years. He was also a veteran of the the United States Air Force.
Gene "Eldon Eugene" Franklin was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, and uncle. He was adored by his community. He has been by his wife's side, Sally, since grade school, and the last 44 years of their marriage. He supported his family with a business he and Sally built from the ground up and was still home for family dinner every night.
His greatest joys in life were fishing and doing ANYTHING his grandchildren and wife wanted or needed. He was a truly dedicated person to his customers, loving husband to his wife, father to his children, and grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, the true lights of his life.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother Fern Franklin; one brother, Tom Franklin and sister in law Kim Franklin, Oswego, Kansas; one sister, Jody Beery; grandparents, Opal and Riley Blackburn, Labette, Kansas, Ethel Miller and Bill Miller; his mother and father in law, Carterville, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sally, Joplin, Missouri; his father John (Eldon) Franklin, Labette City, Kansas; one son, Stan Franklin and Bridget, Snowqualmie, Washington; one daughter, Lori Starr and husband Kent, Bartlett, Tennessee; two brothers, Bernard Franklin and wife Barb, Labette City, Kansas, Darrell Franklin, Oswego, Kansas; three sisters, Pam Eichhorn, Pat Franklin, both of Oswego, Kansas, Lavena Kelly, Parsons, Kansas; four grandchildren, Carsyn, Miller, Macyn, and Jackson; one brother, in law, Mark Miller and wife Ilene; one sister in law, April Tyler and husband Steve, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved him. He will be greatly missed by all.
No formal services are planned at this time.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home Webb City, Missouri
