Courtney Dermott

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Courtney Anne Stevens Dermott passed away October 31, 2016, at her home. She was born on May 27, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Mariana and Brady Stevens.

Courtney attended the Joplin Public Schools, graduated from Gulfpark High School in Gulfport, Mississippi, and from the University of Arkansas, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Pathology, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Courtney cherished her family, the relationships she had with her childhood friends, the Little Nippers, and her college and adult friends. All of her friends were dear to her.

Courtney was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. She worked several years at the Joplin Public Library and was serving as the President of its Board at the time of her death. She happily invested her time in organizations and activities including St. Ann’s Altar Guild, the Freeman Auxiliary, The Mallory Hickey Birthing Center, PEO Chapter FI, St. Avips, the Joplin Little Theatre, Petal Pushers Garden Club, The Board, Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, Ridpath Study Club, Travel Club, the Women’s Club of Joplin, and several bridge groups.

Courtney was proud that she made a hole-in-one at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club, and then gave up the game until her remaining family members accomplished the same feat; she never played golf again.

She is survived by Jon, her husband of 53 years; her daughter, Lyter Isenmann (Tom), and sons, Sharrock (Maria) and Seth (Amber). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Meredith Murray, Brady Dermott, Ryland Dermott, Sage (Melanie) Isenmann and Blake Isenmann, one great-grandchild, Royal Isenmann, and her siblings, Giltner Stevens (Susan) and Sana Shagets (Frank).

Services will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church on Friday, November 4, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Family visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Joplin Public Library or St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
