Big Ed Watkins

Willard Edward Watkins, better known as “Big Ed”, age 65, was pronounced dead at 10:48 am, Friday, June 16, 2017 at his home following a sudden illness.

Big Ed was born August 13, 1951 in Graham, Texas. His parents were Thomas Leslie Watkins Jr and Lucille Emma (Schroeder) Watkins.

He graduated from Riverton High School with the Class of 1969. He has lived in the Riverton KS area most of his life. He entered the US Army National Guard in 1971, serving until 1976. He joined the Galena Elks Lodge over 40 years ago. He was also a member of the IBEW Local # 95, Joplin, MO. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was an electrician. He worked over 30 years at Jackson Electric, Pittsburg, KS. He later worked at Vangel Electric, Joplin, MO.

Surviving are two daughters, Cari Watkins, and Teresa Watkins, both of Joplin, MO; two grandchildren, Kelsey Annis, and Evan Watkins; his niece, Margo Fletcher, and his nephew Paul Watkins, both of Las Vegas, NV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by one nephew, Eric Watkins.

Funeral services will be at 6:00 pm, Friday, June 23, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff D Martin will officiate. Private burial will be at a different time.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 23, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm.
