Gary Wayne Howard, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on May 21, 2017 in Flowery Branch, Georgia. He was born in Carthage, Missouri on December 23, 1941 to Ralph and Virginia Howard. He was the 1st of 5 children. He was a 1960 graduate of Carthage High School. He attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri where he met his wife, Dolly. They also attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkdelphia, Arkansas where he received his BA in mathematics. They were united in marriage on December 18th, 1964. He continued his education at Henderson State University where he received his Masters in mathematics.
After college, Gary taught school in Cuba, Missouri. He then became an officer in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years. During that time, he served as a management analysis staff officer, a Wing executive officer and during the Vietnam war as Commander of various photo reconnaissance processing and interpretation facilities. After the war he assumed duties as Chief of Cost and Management Analysis for 12th Air Force and as wing comptroller. He was a graduate of the Air University Squadron Officer School, the Air Force Command and Staff College and numerous Air Force technical schools. After retiring from the Air Force, he became a stockbroker for Dean Witter Reynolds, and then decided to return to teaching. He taught math at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas for over 22 years, touching many lives.
After his beloved wife Dolly passed away, he started a new adventure in his life when his best friend, John Hinkle introduced him to Marilyn Evon. They were united in marriage on June 27, 2015 in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
Gary was a lifelong Baptist having been ordained as a deacon while still in his twenties. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist church in Gainesville, Georgia.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. We looked to him for wisdom, guidance, and love and he always provided it in abundance. As he graduates from life on earth to life in heaven, we will miss him greatly, but we know we will see him again one day, when all things are made right.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Flowery Branch,Georgia, daughters Christy Dunlop (Greg) and Cindy Koenig (Erik), and four grandchildren, Zach Dunlop, Stephen Dunlop, Katie Bracken, and Samantha Bracken. He is also survived by his mother Virginia Howard, brothers David Howard (Nadine),Steve Howard (Judy), and sisters Judy Kay Howard and Mary Ann Allison(Gary) all of Carthage.
Arrangements are being made by Memorial Park South Flowery Branch Georgia. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Carthage, Missouri.
