Edward Steffan was born E. St. Louis, IL in 1922 to Edward and Minerva Steffan. He entered into rest on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Neosho, MO at the age of 95.
Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and was in the signal corp. While stationed at Ft. Crowder in Neosho, he met his future wife, Dorotha Mason. He used the excuse of going to downtown Neosho on Saturday’s to purchase a half dozen pairs of socks from Bushmeyer’s five and dime, just so he could talk to Dorotha. After his discharge in 1944, he married Dorotha in 1946 and they moved to E. St. Louis, IL. In 1947, they returned to Neosho and he began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and in 1960, the family moved to Branson, where he worked for an independent telephone company. In 1965, he went to work for Harris/McBernie Telephone Co., traveling to Saudi Arabia, Jamaica and other foreign countries. Edward was a member of the Neosho United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorotha in 2015; his daughter, Tonda Woods in 2010; son in law, Jerry Woods, June 6, 2017; sister, Delores Sweney and his parents. Ed leaves behind one daughter, Cynthia Schwartz and husband, Gene of Neosho; three grandsons, Christopher Vandergriff, Matthew Vandergriff and Jason Woods; one granddaughter, Kerrie Bertrand and six great grandchildren, Nathan, Justin, Bradley, Zachary, Ashleigh and Taylor.
Private family graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Contributions in memory of Ed may be made to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
