Melvin Purdy

Melvin Lee Purdy, of Lockwood, MO, departed this life on Monday, June 5, 2017, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home at the age of 97 years.

He was born on January 30, 1920 in Dade County, MO to Arch and Daisy (Tuck) Purdy. Melvin served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was awarded 5 Bronze Stars. He was united in marriage to Elvira Viola Hagins on December 7, 1943. Melvin worked for the Missouri Farmers Association as a Seed Specialist. He was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church for 73 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Arch and Daisy Purdy; his wife, Elvira Purdy; and three sisters, Pearl Elson, Elsie Purdy, and Dorothy Purdy.

Survivors include his son, Gary Purdy and his wife Kathy of Springfield, MO; one brother, Lester Purdy of Wichita, KS; two grandchildren, Melissa Purdy and Chris Purdy; three great-grandchildren, Doug Ray, Nick Ray, and Anna Katherine Purdy; and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, 2017, in Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Burial followed in Collins Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
