Don Hutto

Donald Wayne Hutto, age 84, passed away at 10:50 pm, Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.

Don was born April 24, 1933 in Galena, KS. His parents were Henry and Beatrice (Parks) Hutto. He was a lifetime resident of Columbus.

He graduated from Riverton High School with the Class of 1951. He was Charter President of the Riverton FFA. He had a lifetime passion for agriculture. He was a farmer, growing crops in Cherokee, and Labette Counties. From 1965 – 1970, he also owned and operated Hutto’s Fertilizer Company in Columbus, KS. He actively participated in Farmer’s COOPs in Columbus, Bartlet and Girard, KS.

Don was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Columbus, KS. It was there he married his sweetheart, Rayma Jo Rhoades on December 5, 1954. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, John Charles Hutto (Kenna), Galena and Thomas Ray Hutto, Columbus; three daughters, Donna Joy Flanders (Martin), Lewisville, TX, Bonnie Jean Sutherland (Glen), Joplin, and Joanna Lynn Richards (William), Columbus; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor Bob Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Columbus, KS.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the funeral home with the funeral to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverton FFA in care of the funeral home.
