Judy Stanley

Judith Kay 'Judy' Stanley, age 67, Joplin, passed away at 9:10 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2017 at Research Hospital, Kansas City.

She was born September 21, 1950 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to the late Maxey R. Echols and Pallie Armstrong Echols.

Judy was a homemaker and alongside her husband, Randy, a longtime landlord in the Joplin area since 1977. She took pride in the fact that they never had to evict a tenant. Judy stayed busy with her children's activities, serving as a room mother at Kelsey Norman Elementary and troop leader with the Girl Scouts. She volunteered by delivering food with the Meals on Wheels program and Christmas baskets at the Joplin Elks Lodge. Judy enjoyed crafts, sewing, biking, taking yoga classes, cooking and hosting themed dinner parties. She was a founding member of a decades old BUNCO group, where she connected with many lifelong friends and shared many memories and lots of laughs.

She and Randy loved to travel. They attended the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival, rode snowmobiles (alongside bison) at Yellowstone National Park and marched in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Judy was a former member and board member at the YWCA and longtime member of First Community Church. She was active with several church committees and volunteered at their annual Christmas Dinner, serving food to hundreds of people.

Judy was known for her giggle. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

She married Randy Stanley on April 3, 1976 in Joplin. He survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Angela Stanley and husband, Chris Drake, Kansas City, Missouri, April Stanley Njari and husband, Njari Gitonga, Falls Church, Virginia; granddaughter, Evelyn; one brother, Larry Echols and wife, Janie, Benton, Mississippi; two sisters, Barbara King and husband, Fred, Colleyville, Texas, Nancy Deloach, Springdale, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Mary Kay Thompson and husband, Tod, Carol Wood and husband, Jim, DeeDee Stanley; and her fur baby, Lucy. She was also survived by many extended family and countless friends.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Mickey Stanley, Larry Echols, Dub DeLoach, Frank Belknap; her father-in-law, Stewart Stanley and mother-in-law, Naomi Taylor.

Memorial services are planned for Friday at 1:00 p.m. at First Community Church of Joplin. Roger DeLoach, Judy's nephew, will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Joplin Elks Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, to the Christmas Basket Fund at the Joplin Elk's Lodge, or to a charity of your choice, all in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
