Janice Tickel

Janice Ann Tickel of Cherokee, Kansas passed away on the evening of October 24th, 2017 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, Kansas, surrounded by family.

She was born November 8, 1946 in Joplin, Missouri to Charles and Dixie Haines.

She attended and graduated from Joplin High School. Throughout her life she worked at Ace Electric in Columbus, Kansas, for a short term cooking at several places, and as a cashier at R&J’s Convenient Store in Cherokee, Kansas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherokee, where she sang with several of her friends from the church.

Janice deeply loved her family, friends, her church, cooking, and sewing. She fought her fight with cancer for four years and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Steve and wife Shelly Tickel of Ottawa, KS, Jamie and wife Brianna Tickel of Carl Junction, MO, one daughter Mendy and husband Dale Grotheer of Pittsburg, KS, five grandchildren, Ashley and husband Jason Berve of Ottawa, Brody Tickel of Cherokee, Hawkins, Hyatt, and Harlow Tickel of Carl Junction and two great-granddaughters Addison and Emerson Berve of Ottawa.

She is preceded in death by her mother Dixie Haines, her father Charles Haines, beloved sister Linda Welton, and brother Jack Haines.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Cherokee with Pastor Ben Scott officiating. Visitation will be 6-7 pm Friday evening also at the church in Cherokee. Inurnment will be at the Cherokee City Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.
