Doris J. Hornbeak, age 86 of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin following an illness.
Doris was born on May 25, 1931 in Tiptonville, Tn., the daughter of the late Edgar and Leila (Payton) Thurman. She has been an area resident for many years. Doris worked as a banker for First National Bank of Joplin for many years before retiring in 1992. Doris was an active member of Christ’s Community United Methodist Church.
She married James “Jim” Hornbeak on August 27, 1954, he preceded her in death on August 8, 2016. Doris was also preceded in death by her daughter, Vienda “Vee” Raney, three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include son in law Max Raney; two grandsons, Eric Raney and wife Tina of Pineville, Mo., Jeremy Raney and wife Brandy of Carthage, Mo., five great-grandchildren; Abi Collins and husband Ben, James Raney, Andrew Raney, Jesseca Raney and Lauren Raney, one great-great-grandchild; Haden Collins, sister-in-law; Doris Thurman, friends & companions “Her Girls” Mary Gilstrap & Wilma Lawson, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Christ’s Community United Methodist Church with Rev. Max Raney, Rev. Chris Sloan and Rev. Bob Dart, officiating. Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.
