Terry Schimmel

Terry Schimmel, age 64, Joplin, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, after a sudden illness.

Terry was born May 21,1953 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Stirling Schimmel and Iona Wolfe Schimmel. He grew up in Joplin. Upon graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Long Beach California. After serving, he took residence in California. Terry was a free spirit with a contagious smile. He had a love of music and was an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician. While in LA, Terry drove an ice cream truck and was proudly known as the, “Ice Cream Man", to his loyal customers. He drew large crowds singing and performing. Terry resided in Joplin and worked as an over the road truck driver for Glory Trucking and Transport, Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Terry is survived by his wife, Lisa Ramos, Joplin; sister, Sharron Lemley and husband, Fred, Joplin, brother Bob Schimmel and wife, Karen, Golden Valley, Minnesota; niece, Debbie Lowry and family, Boise, Idaho, niece, Sherry Davis and husband, Jon and family, Manchester, Missouri, niece, Sara Watters and family, Clearwater, Minnesota; 11 cousins and 6 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandsons, stepson, Jason Pennington, Reeds, Missouri.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by 3 cousins, 2 step children, Matthew Pennington and Crista Pennington.

Memorial services are pending with Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of Parker Mortuary.
