(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Madge Rosa (Shaffer) Swan, age 91 of Galena, passed away peacefully at her home at 11:07 AM on Thursday, December 16, 2021.
Madge was born on February 21, 1930 to the union of Allen William Shaffer and Marie Iva (Neal) Shaffer. She was a lifetime resident of Galena, and a faithful member of the Galena United Methodist Church.
At church, she participated in the women's ministries, helped teach the bible schools, and various bible studies. She had worked as a line worker at King Louie Manufacturing in Baxter Springs until her retirement when she began caring for her grandchildren full time. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, and cooking.
Madge was united in marriage with Glenn James Swan, Sr . on July 1, 1949 in Joplin, MO. He preceded her in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Glenn James Swan, Jr.., and 8 siblings.
Survivors include one daughter, Lola Wade (husband, Dennis) of Galena; three grandchildren, Shane Wade (wife, Amy) of Pittsburg, KS, Jake Swan of Galena, and Natalie Abernathy of Carl Junction; three great-grandchildren, Austin Abernathy, Spencer and Allie Wade.
Mrs. Swan has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 27, 2021at the Galena United Methodist Church. Pastor Dorcia Johnson will officiate. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
