Thelma Dean Stone, age 88, of Oronogo, MO, passed away at 6:12 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Freeman West in Joplin.
She was born July 4, 1927 in Swan, Missouri to the late Carroll and Louisa (Newberry) Hammond. Thelma graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1946. She married Glenn Stone May 5, 1951 in Joplin, MO and he survives of the home. She had previously worked at D. Miller Motor in Joplin from 1946 – 1954 and then worked for the Oronogo Post Office in the late 60’s. Thelma was active in the Ladies of the Lord during the 70’s and 80’s and was a Red Hatter. She was a member of the Full Gospel Faith and enjoyed her bible study groups.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Glenn, of 64 years of marriage; sons, Scott Stone of Oronogo, Clay Stone and wife Angie of Eagle Rock, MO and Jay Stone and wife Deanna of Oronogo; sister, Ollie Mae Thrasher of Gresham, Ore; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Stone will be 10:00 AM Monday at the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City with Pastor Charles Melson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin.
