Terry Bechtel

Terry Bechtel, a cherished and esteemed member of the Joplin community, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 1, 1942, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, Terry's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, intelligence, and a profound love for his family and friends.

Terry's educational pursuits culminated in a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University in 1965, setting the stage for a distinguished career. He began his professional journey with Anderson Clayton Company in 1966, before relocating to Joplin the to embark on a successful tenure with Doane Pet Care Products. His career there lasted until 2003, after which he joined 3-D Corporate Solutions. Terry's leadership and vision were recognized when he ascended to the role of President and CEO, a position he held until his retirement in 2012.








Beyond his professional achievements, Terry was deeply involved in various associations that benefited from his expertise and passion. He served on the board of the Pet Food Institute, contributed his insights as a member of the board at Freeman, and held the title of past President of Twin Hills Country Club. His love for the open road was evident in his roles as past director of the Harley Davidson HOG Chapter and as a member of the Mild Pigs motorcycle group. Terry was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge 501 and a devout Christian, actively participating in the community of St. Paul's Methodist Church.

Terry's interests were as diverse as they were engaging. He found joy in golfing, quail hunting, and motorcycle touring, activities that not only brought him personal fulfillment but also allowed him to connect with others who shared his passions. His compassionate nature extended to every aspect of his life, making him a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his four grandchildren, Madison Parrigon and Tyler of Joplin, MO, Alyx Carroll and Joshua of St. Louis, MO, Taylor Colson of Joplin, MO, and Taryn Colson of Joplin, MO. Terry's stepson, Garyn Colson of Joplin, MO, and his special friend, Sylvia Sloan of Joplin, MO, will also hold dear the memories they shared. Terry's life was enriched by the presence of his family, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.








Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Cathy Bechtel, and his stepson Nathan Colson, Terry's spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. His loving, kind, and intelligent nature will be remembered by all as the hallmarks of a life well-lived.

Terry Bechtel's story is one of dedication, love, and service, and his impact on the lives he touched will endure. As we bid farewell to a man of exceptional character, we take solace in the knowledge that his legacy will live on through the many lives he has influenced. Terry's journey on earth may have concluded, but the memories he created will forever be a testament to the remarkable man he was.

A celebration of life to honor Terry will be held for friends and family from 1 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, at Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom located at 3320 S Rangeline Rd in Joplin, MO.
