Margaret Mahaffey

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Margaret Yukie Mahaffey passed away peacefully in Olathe, KS on May 30, 2026 at 97 years old. She was born in Japan and lived a full life in the U.S. after marrying the love of her life, Bobbie Mahaffey in 1956 at the U.S. Embassy in Japan. They lived in Bremerton, WA for two years before the U.S. Navy transferred Bobbie to Hawaii. They remained there for three years before returning to the mainland.

After Bobbie retired from the Navy in 1965 they lived in Waukegan, IL where they owned a franchise of the White Hen Pantry and delighted in serving their customers baked goods as well as household items. Family members helped in the store at different times, adding to the spirit of the family business.

The couple moved to Grandview, MO in 1973 where they lived for the rest of their prime years. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2006 with family and friends at a local restaurant, while their marriage would last 66 years before Bobbie passed away in 2022.

Margaret took good care of Bobbie, staying up at night to make sure he was still breathing in the later years. She lived four more years without him, cared for by the compassionate staff at Good Samaritan Society of Olathe.

Margaret is preceded by her parents, Kanichi and Kiku Takano, and brother-in-law John Mahaffey. She is survived by Jerry and Violet Mahaffey, brother-in-law and sister-in-law in Neosho, MO, sister-in-law Eddie Mahaffey in Bay City, TX as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 12, at Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho. Friends and family may visit the Clark Funeral Home between 10:00 am and 12 Noon prior to the service.
