Shirley Hall

Mrs. Shirley Hall, age 80, of Carl Junction, passed away on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Kansas. She was born January 22, 1936 in Carl Junction to Elmer Forste and Daisy Reed. Mrs. Hall was a homemaker, and a school bus driver for twenty-nine years. Shirley enjoyed camping, fishing and cooking.

Survivors include her husband Forrest Hall of the home, daughters Karen Stewart of Pittsburg, KS and Pamela Daly of Carl Junction, sons Terry Hall of Ozark, MO and Gene Hall of Carl Junction, and brother Ted Forste, also from Carl Junction. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 5th from 6-7pm at the Simpson Funeral Home of Carl Junction. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Pleasant View Methodist Church.

Glenn Bell

Glenn Eldon Bell, age 94 of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Saturday July 2, 2016 at the National Health Care Nursing Home in Joplin, MO. 

He was born on December 13, 1921 in Purcell, Mo the son of Harold Francis and Lola Viva “Sargent” Bell. Glenn earned his Bachelors in accounting from the University of Mo, and worked as an accountant in Kansas City, MO until his retirement. He married Mary Holland on November 25, 1954 in Webb City, Mo. 

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Edwin and Norman Kay Bell; and a sister Frances Fort. Survivors include his wife Mary of the home, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday July 6, 2016 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory with Reverend Jay Dick Officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to service time at the mortuary.

Alice Waring

Alice Ruth Waring, of Golden City, Missouri, departed this life at the age of 76, Wednesday, June 30, 2016 at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Missouri.

Alice was born October 27, 1939 to Walter G. Waring and Millie E. (Watson) Waring. She lived with her father and mother until they died, and then moved to live at Wyatt House in Golden City, Missouri. She loved animals and while living in Iantha, she took care of chickens, rabbits, cats and dogs. She was a member of the Iantha Baptist Church.

Alice is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding her in death, were her parents; three brothers, D.C. Williams, Edward Waring, and Franklin H. Waring; and two sisters, Mary Pettibon and Reddie Fay Kitty.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Wednesday July 6, 2016 at Daniel Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Gage officiating. She will be laid to rest at Deerfield Cemetery.

Irvin Block

Irvin Block, 95, of Carthage Mo passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Carthage Health and Rehab. He was born January 22, 1921 in Jasper County, Missouri to Ydo Block and Flora “Spor” Block. He was a lifetime resident of Jasper County and was a farmer. He was a veteran of the United States Army from July 1942- November 1945. He loved working in his garden and loved his flowers.

Irvin was united in marriage to Josephine Matthews on June 21, 1941 in Carthage. She passed away January 24, 2016.

Survivors include 2 sons, Walter Block (Sherry) of Carthage and Larry Block (Diana) of Carthage, 2 daughters, Barbara Linder (Ray) of Golden City and Sylvia Bader (Bill) of Carthage, 3 brothers, Teddy Block of Eagle Rock, Rex Block of Joplin, and Cecil Block of Sarcoxie, 3 sisters, Christina Craft of Hamptonville NC, Wanda Dennison of Denver CO, and Shirley Deubert of Joplin, 11 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by one brother Kenneth Block and one sister Irene Hughey.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to services on Tuesday. Officiating will be Ray Linder and Bill Bader. Pallbearers will be Jeff Bader, Bryan Block, Marty Block, Kevin Linder, Jacob Bowen, and Rustin Khal. Burial will be in Diamond Cemetery in Diamond, Missouri. Contributions may be given to Disabled Veterans in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.ulmerfh.com. Wayne Green

Wayne Green, age 61, of Stotts City, MO, passed from this life on Friday July 1, 2016 in his residence after a extended decline in health. Wayne was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born on July 3, 1954 in Advance, MO, the son of Elmer Eugene Green and Gertrude (McCully) Cruz. Wayne was married to Vicky Capps on August 26, 1972 in Ardeola, MO and she survives. .

Wayne is survived by two sons, Joshua Green, and wife Angel, of Stotts City, MO and Kenneth Green, and wife Jasa of Springfield, MO; three daughters, Michelle Schatte and husband Steve, of Stotts City, MO, Megan Green of Monett, MO and Sabrina Green of Joplin, MO; his mother Gertrude Cruz, of Jackson, MO; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one half-brother, Eddie Cruz of Jackson, MO; one sister, Wanda Pounds, of Jackson, MO; one half-sister, Linda Jo of WI; two step-sisters, Edna Sheible, of Bloomfield, MO and Jenny Jennings, of Bell City, MO

He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Jimmy Green; two brothers, Jimmie Green and Henry Green; one step-brother, Larry Sides; one half-brother, Danny Cruz.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Scott Real officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, southeast of Monett.

Melba Knost

Melba Corrine Adkins Knost, 79, of Carthage, Missouri, passed from this life after a lengthy illness on Wednesday June 29, 2016. Melba was born in Joplin, Missouri to Roger Garland Adkins and Gladys Mary Hodge. She was the youngest of four siblings. She lived in Duquesne where she went to school through eighth grade and then spent her high school years at Joplin High School where she graduated in 1954. She also lived in Duenweg, Wentworth and Carthage.

Melba was the mother of four children. She enjoyed being part of their activities which included band, piano lessons, and FFA and rarely missed one of them. She was involved in the Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri State PTA and Green Acres 4-H. She enjoyed flower gardening, genealogy, family reunions, west Texas visits to see family, and in her later life, playing computer games, and drinking Coca Cola. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Carthage. She attended Joplin Business School receiving her Bookkeeper’s certification and worked for a number of businesses in that capacity including Howard Buick, Orbit Products, Delta Farms, Joplin Stockyards, Revival Fires, and Jasper CO Farm Bureau Insurance.

She is survived by her two sons Gary Don and wife Susan of Carthage; David of Carthage; and daughter, Debbie and husband Tobie Sanders of Perkins, Oklahoma; her brother, Flavious Adkins and wife, Evelyn of Troy, Mo; sister, Nadine Hansen and husband, Max of Seneca; sister-in-law Ann Adkins, of Nevada; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren plus a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special friend Liz Hawks of Carthage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leroy Adkins; infant daughter, Karen; and, son-in-law, Taz LaFollette. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Hospital Equipment Fund, Meals on Wheels McCune Brooks Hospital program in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home Carthage Mo.

John Boatman

John Thomas Boatman, age 94 of Joplin, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 30, 2016. John was born on October 18, 1921, in Filer, Idaho. He was the son of Richard Andrew Boatman and Verba Shaddy Boatman. When John was two the family moved to Rialto, Calif. After graduating from Rialto High School John went into the building trade and then married his long-time sweetheart, Margaret Paine, on June 15, 1940. During World War II he worked for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. After the war he developed his name in San Bernardino as a quality craftsman, building custom homes and remodeling homes for wealthy clients. John and Margaret moved to Joplin in 2008.

John was a life-long member of the Christian Church, serving many years as elder, teacher, and youth sponsor. He was a founding board member of the American Indian Christian Mission in Show Low, Ariz.

John is survived by his son Phillip Boatman (Karen) of Escondido, Calif. and his daughter Linda Boles (Kenny) of Joplin. Grandchildren include Kim Boatman of Escondido, Calif; April McBride (Patrick) of Carlsbad, Calif; Leigh Anne Johnson (Jeff) of Franklin, Ind., and Eric Boles (Alison) of Shawnee, Kan. There are four great-grandchildren: Sydney Johnson, Simon Boles, Sarah Boles, and Hope McBride, as well as many nieces and nephews. John is also survived by three sisters: Nadine Rotolo of Fontana, Calif., Mary Miller of Malibu, Calif., and Janet VanMeetren of Las Vegas, Nev.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two older brothers: Don Earl Boatman of Joplin and Russell Boatman of Lincoln, Ill.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Villa Heights Christian Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to American Indian Christian Mission, Show Low, Ariz. The mission website is www.aicm.org. Cremation has been arranged by Parker Mortuary.
