Robert Edward (Bernie) Burnett, age 69 of Joplin, passed away at 5:38 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015 peacefully at his home.
Born January 31, 1946 in Joplin, he was the only child of the late Howard and Twyla Trease Burnett and was a lifelong resident of Joplin. Bob graduated from Joplin High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He worked at Bob Massey Music and for Peterbilt in Joplin before retiring. He was a Christian. He loved his family and friends, playing golf and his red Chevy convertible. He was a member of Eagle Creek Golf and Country Club and Joplin Elk's Lodge No. 501.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Burnett on February 14, 2003 and a son, Todd Robert Burnett on February 11, 2002.
Survivors include two daughters, Tracy Kunkel of Overland Park, KS, Tiffany Speake and husband Steven of Leawood, KS; five grandchildren, Samantha and Hunter Burnett, Tyler, Kaytlyn and Foster Kunkel; and his companion of recent years, Judy Turner.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at his home, 3409 S. Poplar, in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Humane Society, Joplin Golf Foundation's Junior Golf Program, or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Parker Mortuary.
