Barbara Jackson

Barbara Ruth (Humes) Jackson, 81, left this earthly world to be with her heavenly father on January 20, 2016, at St. Lukes Nursing Center. 

She was born on June 18, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA. Barbara was the daughter of Ira and Lily (Bishop) Humes. She graduated for Haddon Heights High School in Haddon Heights, NJ in 1953. Barbara attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa and graduated in 1955 with a BA degree. 

Barbara married Melvin E. Jackson on June 1, 1951 in Ashland, NJ. They had thirty one and a half happy years together before he passed away in 1998. Barbara and Mel moved to Missouri from Tucson, AZ in 1979. They owned and operated a teenage place called the Blue Jean Canteen in Lamar, MO as well as B.J.’s Grocery in Alba, MO, but Barbara’s main job throughout her marriage was that of wife and mother. Barbara was a member of the Carthage Restoration Church of Jesus Christ. In her younger years she was a Sunday school teacher, as well as Woman’s leader for several years. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, many crafts and searching information and contacting friends on her computer. Her special pleasure was giving baskets filled with gifts to the Ronald McDonald House and Children’s Haven. Her survivors include her daughter Dawn Giroux, son David Jackson, daughter-in-law Holly Jackson, granddaughter Jessica Craven, grandsons Jeremy and Jason Giroux one great granddaughter Emma Pemberton all of Carthage and granddaughter Jennifer Craven of Tucson, AZ. 

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday January 23, 2016 at the Carthage Restoration Church of Jesus Christ 9116 county road 170 Carthage, MO.
