Forrest Commack

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

Forrest Watt Cammack, 94, passed away on January 15, 2016, at Huger Mercy Living Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Forrest was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Carl Junction, Missouri. He was the youngest of three children born to Vista Imogene and John Lewalling Cammack. Forrest had a sister, Melba, and a brother, John.
After graduating from Carl Junction High School in 1940, Forrest attended Joplin Business College. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and was deployed to the Philippines. He received an honorable discharge at the end of the war, departing from the Army on Christmas Day 1945 and arriving home in Carl Junction the next day.

Soon after that, Forrest took a job delivering Coca-Cola, and it was while at work that he met his future wife, Maurine Elizabeth Atkins. The couple was married in her parents’ home in Neosho on August 17, 1946.

During the early years of their marriage, Forrest worked as a bookkeeper at Phillips Petroleum, while Maurine was a secretary at Spicer Insurance Company, a job she held until the birth of their first child, Catherine Nadine, in 1951. A second daughter, Mary Ann, was born three years later. Forrest became the manager of Hickey Oil Company, a job he held for many years.

Forrest and Maurine were long-time members of Byers Avenue United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer. They had many friends and enjoyed playing cards, traveling, watching basketball, talking politics and hosting family dinners on Sundays and holidays.

Forrest was preceded in death by his wife (2011), father (1942), mother (1974), sister (1995) and brother (1997).

Among the many friends and relatives who will miss Forrest deeply are his three children and their spouses: Roseann and Larry Cammack Larsen, Catherine and Peter Menor, and Mary and Jim Narrod; eight grandchildren: Ryan Barbone, Troy Cammack, Sarah Cho (Daniel), Julie Donnan, Brent Larsen (Amanda), Derrick Larsen (Charine), Mark Larsen (Laurie), and Bradley Mitchell (Stacy); 15 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Donnan, Amanda and Aaron Butler, and Andrew, Ashley, Austin, Brandie, Candace, Daegen, Dallas, Evan, Gabrielle, Geneva, Kaylie and Mark Larsen; and two great-great-grandchildren: Maddox and Xander Larsen.
