Bob Mitchell

Robert “Bob” C. Mitchell, 75 and a lifelong resident of Joplin, MO, passed away on Sunday, January 3rd, 2016 at his home. 

He was born on September 19th, 1940 to Byron and Dorothy “Knapp” Mitchell. Bob married Phyllis Sitch and to this union three children were born. Phyllis preceded him in death in December of 1970. He then married Claudia McGaugh on January 27th, 1973 in Joplin, MO. Bob was employed with Springfield Engineering Company as a sheet metal worker until his retirement in 1999. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Union Local #36. 


Bob was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Dorothy Mitchell. Survivors include his wife Claudia, two sons: Scott Mitchell and wife Melenie; Clay Mitchell and wife Laurie; daughter Tracy Thomas and significant other Clyde Campbell; three brothers: Bud Mitchell, Roger Mitchell and significant other Phyllis Kendrick, and Terry Mitchell and wife Sheila; two sisters: Sandi Davison and Sally Hutchens, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday January 7th, 2016 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory with Ben Bainbridge officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to service time at the mortuary. Burial will follow in the Osborne Cemetery Joplin, MO. The family suggests contributions to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the Parkinson Foundation or the Special Olympics of Missouri in care of the morutary.
