Barry Koch

Barry E. Koch, 76, Neosho, entered into rest on October 5, 2017 at his home in Neosho, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy battle with cancer. 

 Barry was born March 26, 1941 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Arlis and Margaret (Sherif) Koch. He moved to the Joplin area in 1962 and to Newton County in 1966. He worked for the City of Neosho as Parks Superintendent and then co-owned and operated Big Spring Nursery for over twelve years. He was honored in 1984 by the Soroptimist Club for his works and accomplishments with the city of Neosho by a Proclamation of Barry Koch day; and a marker was placed in the Big Spring Park in his honor. He also loved gardening, fishing, drawing and painting and was a Master Gardner. He was a member of the Newtonia United Methodist Church for 39 years and was a member of the Neosho United Methodist Church for the last eleven years. He was active in the Methodist Men’s Group, was a Sunday school teacher, and currently served as a trustee. 

 Barry married Sharon Hulsey on September 8, 1963 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include three children, M’lle Cook and husband, Alan of Granby; Scott Koch and wife, Michelle of Temple, Texas and Sandi Longman and husband, Brian of Diamond; six grandchildren, Breanna, Chelsey, Cameron, Katie, Ashlyn and Alyssa and two brothers, Ron Koch and wife, Sharon and Jim Koch and wife, Corine, all of Carl Junction. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra Koch.

Services will be Monday, October 9, 2017 at 2 pm at the Neosho United Methodist Church. Pastor Mitch Jarvis will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho from 2 to 4 pm. The casket will be closed following the visitation to remain closed. Following funeral services, Barry will be taken for cremation. Contributions in memory of Barry may be made to the Neosho United Methodist Church, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66, Neosho, Missouri.
