Barbara Lynne Knell, age 75, Carthage, MO, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 21, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO.
Barbara Lynn Bowman was born April 26, 1943 in Carthage, MO to the late Robert G. Bowman and Helen P. (Bender) Bowman. She was a 1961 graduate of Carthage High School. Barbara worked as a secretary for Tom Klinginsmith Law Firm.
She married Fred E. Knell on April 11, 2003 in Miami, OK; he preceded her in death on August 3, 2015. Barbara was a member of the Mt. Moriah Methodist Church, Carthage, a long time member of the American Daffodil Society and the Tri-State Iris Society. She was well known for her passion and expertise in raising, showing, and judging iris and daffodils.
Survivors include her companion, Ed Young, Joplin, MO; two step-sons, Fred Allen Knell (Ann), Carthage, MO, and Lloyd Knell (Susan), Pittsburg, KS; and one step-daughter, Melody Durant (Nathan), Krebs, OK.
Visitation will be held 1-2 pm, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 2 pm. Inurnment will take place in Park Cemetery, Carthage.
