Betty Winstone

Betty Lou Winstone, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital after a sudden illness.

Betty was born September 24, 1938 in Newton County, Missouri to the late Alva Burkhart and Maxine Macy Burkhart and had lived in the area most of her life.

Betty attended Joplin schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of Southside Church of God and had attended Central Assembly.

Betty married Melvin Winstone on April 29, 1957 in Miami, Oklahoma. They lived in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and Germany before making their home back in Joplin. Betty loved her family and loved the time she spent with them. She had many friends and enjoyed the card games that their groups played each week. She will be missed by all who knew her.









Survivors include her husband, Melvin; two sons, Melvin Winstone, Jr. and wife, Deborah, Olathe, Kansas, Bradley Winstone and wife, Debora, Oronogo; a daughter, Robin Whetzell and husband, Michael, Farlington, Kansas; sister, Sharon Boyle and husband, Tom, Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Stephanie Fowler and husband, Collin, Gardner, Kansas, Christopher Winstone, Overland Park, Kansas, Matthew Mesplay and wife, Andrea, Fort Worth, Texas, Michelle Mesplay, Oklahoma, Josh Whetzell, Oronogo, Krista Whetzell, Pittsburg, Kansas, Eden Whetzell, Farlington, Kansas, Madison Winstone, Oronogo, Hollie Smith, Joplin; and great grandchildren, Callin Ensminger, Connor Ensminger, Laekyn Fowler, Anderson Mesplay, Layla Mesplay, Ethan Barnes, Mason McGuire, Kason Whetzell, Ryder Whetzell and Quinnlyn Whetzell.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Ray, Max, Charles, and Wylie Burkhart; Anne Caviness, June Galbraith and Joyce Boyers.

Memorial services are planned for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until service time at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
