Dickie Waggener

Richard Earl "Dickie" Waggener, 78, passed away February 14, 2019, surrounded by his loving caregivers at Sunshine Home in Carthage, where he had resided over 25 years. Dickie was born on January 19, 1941, in Butler, Mo., to Virgil Earl Waggener and Arline G. Waggener.

After his beloved father's death in 1950, the family moved to Joplin, Mo., where his mother sold real estate. Dickie attended a community organization for youth with disabilities and made many friends. As a child, he loved to play basketball, piano, go for rides, and eat ice cream.

He lived at the Nevada State Hospital until its closure, then moved to Sunshine Home. Dickie was very close to his family and had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews. He loved his caregivers who drove him to Bentonville for regular visits with his extended family.

Dickie was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Charles L. "Bud" Horton; brother, Jack Lynn Waggener; sister-in-law, Christine Van Rossen Waggener; brother-in-law, Dr. Donald L. Cohagan; and stepbrother, LCpl Charles Brent Horton.






He is survived by his sister, Celia Wylene Cohagan, of Bentonville, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

In lieu of visitation, a service will be held at Parker Mortuary Chapel, 1502 South Joplin Avenue, Joplin, on Sunday, February 17, at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be at Crescent Hill Cemetery, NW County Road 14002, Adrian, Mo., on Monday, February 18th.
