Harvey Lakin

Harvey Lee Lakin, Neosho, MO, passed away August 8, 2020 at National Health Care in Joplin, MO. He was born June 23, 1930 in Neosho to Archie and Ruby (Bogle) Lakin. 

Harvey attended Field Elementary and Jaybird schools. He graduated from Neosho High School in 1948. Harvey also graduated from NEO A&M College, Miami, OK; Kansas State College in Pittsburg, KS; the Institute of Certified Professional Managers, James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA; then went on to receive his Master’s Degree from American Graduate School in Covina, CA. Harvey worked for Matter’s Jewelry and First National Bank during his high school years. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. 

After the war, he worked at Rocketdyne Neosho for nine years, then moved to Altamont, KS and worked for National Gypsum Company in Parsons, KS for two years before they changed to Day & Zimmermann, Inc. at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, where he worked for 27 years. The Lakins also had a jewelry store in Neosho, MO and Parsons, KS; after retiring, Harvey continued to do clock and watch repair at his home.

Harvey married Norma Louise (Noe) on June 7, 1951 in Eureka Springs, AR; Norma survives of the home. 








Additional survivors include one son, William Gregory Lakin; one sister-in-law, Willadean Lakin of Republic, MO; one nephew, Chris Lakin and wife, Diana of Springfield, MO; and one niece, Debbie Schwers and husband, Bill of Richman, TX. Harvey was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Michael Lakin in 1985.

Harvey was a former member of the First Christian Church in Parsons, KS for 34 years, where he had served as a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of several department committees. He was a current member of First Christian Church in Neosho, MO, where he was a former board chairman of the church and had served on several committees. 

Harvey had been a scout leader both in Altamont and Neosho. He belonged to the Boy Scouts of America; Neosho Lodge No. 247; and American National Management Association. He was a former member and had been President of the Kiwanis Club of Parsons; a member of the American Legion Post 163 in Neosho; a former President of the Neosho Senior Center Board; and member of Elks Lodge in Parsons.

Graveside memorial services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery, Neosho, MO, with Pastor Mark Young officiating.
