Patricia Elizabeth Bean passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 17, 2020. She was born May 4, 1939 to Dorthy (Hoaglan) and William Ray Cassatt in Barton County, MO.
She married Sherrell Bean on December 27, 1956 in Miami, OK. She was only 17, although she told the Justice of the Peace she was 18 so she didn’t have to have her parents’ permission. She didn’t tell her parents that they were married until Valentine’s Day at which point her mother voiced considerable thoughts on the subject.
She graduated from Liberal High School in May of 1957. The couple had three sons, Joe, Shaun, and Ron. They made their home in Lamar Heights. Pat worked on the family farm near Liberal with Sherrell until his death in 1999.
She always enjoyed gardening in her sweet corn patch. While farming, she worked as a freelance writer and photographer for Farm Talk Magazine and served on the Soybean Merchandising Council. She graduated from the Police Academy at Missouri Southern State University in the early 1980s. She served as a deputy sheriff of Barton County for 17 years, working many of those years as the county’s DARE officer.
Upon retirement, she worked for Vantage Point, caring for mentally handicapped adults. Pat was a church organist her entire adult life and enjoyed being a part of a bluegrass band that performed throughout the area, singing and playing many instruments. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, MO.
Pat was preceded in death by her brother Terry Cassatt; sister Peggy Rose; and sons Joe and Shaun Bean. She is survived by her son Ron (Tracy) Bean; Shaun’s widow, Sandy Bean; 1 grandson; 6 granddaughters; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, MO on Saturday August 22, 2020 at 10:30 AM. Friends and family are invited to a meal and informal visitation, at the church, following the service.
