Walter was born November 4, 1932 in Seneca, Missouri, son of the late Tommy W. Farmer and Nellie (Brown) Farmer. He grew up in Seneca.
He married Stella Ruth Hooper October 16, 1950. They were married for 65 years and had 5 children. In 1963 he opened G & W Foods in Noel, Missouri, which he operated for nearly 35 years before retiring, and moving to the Grand Lake area to enjoy retirement. Walter and Stella spent many hours fishing on Grand Lake and enjoyed working in flowers and gardening. They moved to Joplin in 2007.
He was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse Church of Racine. He loved his faith and God. Going to church was one of the biggest parts of his life.
He married Letretha Farmer (Sampson) of Racine who survives of the home. Other survivors includes son Eddie Farmer and wife Debbie of Joplin, daughter Joyce Gonzalez and husband Jose of Southwest City, Missouri, daughter Donna Price of Noel, Missouri, son Rick Farmer and Rosie of Joplin, and daughter Rhonda Mitchell and husband Rev. Ron Mitchell of Parsons, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, sister Patsy Chandler, brother Leonard Farmer and wife Beverly, sister Peggy Ritter, sister-in-law Beulah Farmer several great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation Friday, August 21, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Parker Mortuary Joplin, Missouri.
Graveside service will be Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Gallemore/Sparlin Cemetery with Rev. Ron Mitchell and Rev. Kelly Sampson officiating. Interment will be in Gallemore/Sparlin Cemetery, Seneca, Missouri with Trestan Mitchell, Scott Greenwood, Keith Sampson, Kaleb Sampson, Lorenzo Odell, and Jay Baldwin serving as pallbearers, and great grandson Turek Mitchell serving as an honorary pallbearer.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
