Sharon Carlisle

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Sharon R. Carlisle, age 76 of Sarcoxie, Mo. passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at home and pronounced later at Mercy Hospital in Carthage, Mo.

Sharon was born on January 20, 1944 in Sarcoxie, the daughter of Ed and Mildred (Holmes) Burkey. She has been a life-long Sarcoxie resident.

She married the love of her life, Larry Carlisle, on December 21, 1962, and supported him steadfastly as his rock and help meet throughout the 57 years they were married.

Sharon was many things in her extraordinary life: she supported her husband’s ministry in the church, raised a large family, baked bread daily, tended her garden in summer, canned vegetables for the winter, and played cards with her family often. She was a professional clown under the name “Cool Breeze” who oftentimes simply donated her time to perform for a classroom of students or a ward of sick children. She was also a successful businesswoman, managing the holiday photo events for Christmas and Easter at Northpark Mall for a number of years. In her free time, she enjoyed taking photographs, mostly capturing the joy she held for family and the simple beauty in Missouri rainbows, sunsets, and snowfalls. She also wrote poetry and studied calligraphy, leaving behind cherished handwritten parchments for her children and grandchildren.

Her last day on this earth was spent attending services at West Union Church of Christ in the company of faithful friends and loving family.

She is survived by two sons; Jamie Carlisle and wife Valerie of Parsons, Ks., Quentin Faust of Joplin, Mo., three daughters; Julie Smith and husband Tony of Joplin, Amy Bien and husband Greg of Diamond, Mo., Betsy Pendergraft and husband J of Carthage, one brother; Don Burkey and wife Freda of Diamond, thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, “Old Man Luke” Burkey, in 2013. Her family takes comfort in the fact that she is now together once again with her son, Courtney “C” Carlisle, Momma’s Sweet Boy, who she lost in 1989.

The family will hold a memorial visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at the West Union Church of Christ in Granby, Mo. Please send any flowers directly to West Union Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
