Gary Henson

Gary Eugene Henson, age 60, passed away at 11:08 pm, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS following an illness. 

Gary was born November 12, 1959 in Joplin, MO. His parents were Gary Ray and Phyllis Nadine (Edwards) Henson. He was raised in Joplin and attended Joplin schools.

Gary has lived in Galena the past 42, years. He has worked as a machinist at Wenger Manufacturing, Galena, KS for the past 25 years. He was a member of Joplin Full Gospel Church, 2601 S Indiana, Joplin, MO where he served as a Church Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed fishing, camping spending time with his grandkids, and watching their sports activities.

Gary was married to Candy L Gilstrap on March 7, 1977 in Joplin, MO. She survives. 

Additional survivors include one son, Mike Henson (wife, Shawna), Galena; two daughters, Chandee Jones (husband Jeremy), Galena, and Sunny Henson, Galena; 8 grandchildren, Jessica Henson, Ethan Henson, Deacon Henson, Emmah Henson, Jenna Henson, Maysen Jones, Sawyer Jones, and Adler Jones; and his mother in law, Judy Gilstrap, Galena.

He was preceded in death by his parents. one sister, Becky Henson, and his father in law, Harold Gilstrap.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:00 pm, Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Joplin Full Gospel Church, Joplin, MO.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Joplin Full Gospel Church, Joplin, MO. Pastor Josh Patrick will officiate.

Private interment will be Wednesday Morning, August 19, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.
