Gerald Pennington

Ovie Gerald Pennington, 93, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday August 9, 2020 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.

Gerald entered this life on January 2, 1927, in Ames, Oklahoma, son of the late Earnest and Angie (Gibson) Pennington. 

Upon leaving Sarcoxie High School, he proudly served in the United States Navy. 

On October 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Muriel Dee Stirewalt. Together they shared sixty-nine years until her passing on November 10, 2017. For many years he was a foreman for Juvenile Shoe in Sarcoxie, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing. Gerald was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. 








He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel; and two sisters, Virginia Jasumback and Veta Seufert.

Gerald is survived by his son, Duwayne Pennington and wife, Cynthia, of Keller, Texas; three grandchildren, Jaime Loomis and husband, Jason, of Murrieta, California, Cade Pennington and wife, Loida, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Seth Pennington and wife, Tara, of Southlake, Texas; eight great grandchildren, Micah Loomis, Noah Loomis, Isaac Loomis, Amelia Loomis, Lucas Pennington, Mateo Pennington, Gabriela Pennington and Lucia Pennington; three brothers, Bob Pennington and wife, Peggy, of Carthage, Missouri, Harold Blaine Pennington of Laguna Niguel, California and Cletus Pennington and wife, Jo, of Mansfield, Texas; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Pennington are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2020 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri, with Pastor Bob Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Cade Pennington, Seth Pennington, Lucas Pennington, Doug Pennington, Dale Jasumback and Paul Jasumback. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Missouri Veterans Home, in care of the funeral home.
