Randy Mitchell

Mr. Randy Gene Mitchell, 62, of Webb City, Missouri, passed from this earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, August 7, 2020, after a four month battle with cancer. He was met by his parents and brother.

Randy was born on December 20, 1957, in Joplin, Missouri, to Erman Lee and Norma Jeanne (Dye) Mitchell. He was the second of four children. He attended Carl Junction Schools, graduating in 1976. He played baseball from the time he was old enough through his high school years. Randy was an avid fisherman and had the patience of Job when waiting for a bite. While in high school, he was a member of the Naval ROTC Drill Team which went to California to compete with college teams.

In 1977, he joined the Navy which sent him on many adventures including, serving on the USS LaSalle for a year traveling to different countries. He served as an airplane mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1983. He continued to serve in the Reserves until 1991.

On April 18, 1987, he married his wife of thirty-three years, Becky Evans Mitchell. In May of 1988, they welcomed daughter, Veronica and a son Craig in 1991. He loved his children very much and would do anything for them. 








Randy worked for Mizzou Aviation for thirty years on the line service and parts department. He made many friends and memories that he cherished. He was currently employed by AutoZone in Webb City as a delivery driver.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kerry.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; daughter, Veronica Mitchell; son, Craig Mitchell, all of the home; a stepson, Jason Mitchell and wife, Melanie, of Joplin; two step grandchildren; a sister, Kathy Mitchell of Reeds, Missouri; a brother, Jeff Mitchell of Joplin; one aunt, Kathey Dye of Carl Junction, Missouri; as well as a host of nieces, cousins and other extended family. A special thanks to his cousins, George and Myrna Oviatt and Gayle Yaryan for always being there for us.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday morning, August 15, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Joplin Humane Society c/o the funeral home.
