Dennis Carlton Walkup passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 with his wife by his sideDennis was born in Webb City, Mo to the late Carl and Virginia (Byrd) Walkup. Dennis was a lifetime area resident.
On January 12, 1974 Dennis was united in marriage to Kathy Williams. To this union two children were born, Patrick and Allison. He served his country in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War.
Dennis had a great sense of humor and loved helping others. He worked for the department of mental of health where he began his career as a social worker. He retired from the state after 32 years of service as a service coordinator. After his work with the state, Dennis began his special education teaching career.
At Joplin South Middle School, Dennis taught History. He loved history and on the last day of school he would dress up in Civil War reenactment clothing. He loved being involved in the Civil War reenactment.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother in law Larry Huggins. He is survived by his wife Kathy Walkup of Joplin, Mo., son Patrick Walkup of Kansas City, Mo., daughter Allison Wiggans of Branson, Mo., granddaughter Alyssa Wiggans, and sister Sharon Walkup-Huggins of Kansas City, Mo.
A private family service has been scheduled for Dennis. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial contributions to be given to the ALS association in care of the mortuary.
