(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Bruce Wayne Rardin, 61 of Baxter Springs, Kansas passed from this life on Monday, October 19, 2020 after a medical emergency caused him to have a motor vehicle accident.
Bruce worked as a mechanic for Weston Automotive in Baxter Springs, KS, and assembled race car engines for Russell Baker Racing Engines in Miami, and more currently for Hatfield Racing Engines in Joplin, MO. He was a guy that would do anything for anyone and loved cars since he was a child.
Bruce was known for his ’67 Chevelle Super Sport which he bought at age 14, which eventually became the loudest and fastest car in five counties. He finished rebuilding his Chevelle this July after working on and off for over 20 years trying to make it go faster. It was his lifelong goal to restore it to former glory.
Bruce was born July 25, 1959 in Baxter Springs, Kansas to the union of Albert Dewayne and Judy Karen (Bolin) Rardin. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Judy Wilson and Dewayne Rardin; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Homer Bolin; paternal grandparents, Earnest and Esther Rardin.
Bruce is survived by his brother, Brian Rardin and Michael Tidd of New York, NY; uncles, Freddie Bolin and wife Shirlene, Donnie Bolin, and Steve Bolin and wife Laurie; aunts, Nancy Preddy and husband Leonard, Joyce Blizzard and husband Bob, and Roberta Metzger and husband Jay, along with numerous cousins.
Memorial graveside service will be at the Baxter Springs Cemetery Friday, October 30th at 3pm. There will be a hotrod car processional down Military Avenue ending at the cemetery prior to the service.
