Roy was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Webb City High School. He worked in the trucking industry as a diesel mechanic, retiring from CFI. He enjoyed farming, Cardinal baseball and spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith.
Roy married Kathy Denise Carpenter on January 18, 1985 in Miami, Oklahoma and she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Michael Slaughter and wife, Amber of Wylie, Texas, Ronnie Garrett and wife, Valerie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Casey Slaughter and wife, Claire of Spring Creek, Nevada and Maddie Weston and husband, Cody of Silver Springs, Maryland; one brother, Randy Slaughter and wife, Nancy of Joplin; two sisters, Diane Zacarello of Webb City and Sandra Hager and husband, Miles of Bellview, Nebraska; aunt, Ina Tucker of Carl Junction and six grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Kelly Hornback.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 10 am at Oakwood Cemetery with his son, Michael Slaughter officiating. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation Sunday from 3 pm – 5 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Roy be made to the Joplin Humane Society or the charity of the donor’s choice, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
