(From Parker Mortuary)Doris E. Reynolds, 98, of Joplin, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020.
Doris was born December 13, 1921 in Joplin to the union of the late William Robert and Colosse Gertrude (Halstead) King. She graduated from Joplin High School, where she played basketball and was a member of National Honor Society and the Sigma Gamma Lambda Literary Society.
Following high school, she attended Joplin Junior College for two years. Doris worked as an accountant for Lincoln Distributing, Cusack & Mense Accounting and Pennington Drug.
Doris was naturally competitive and loved sports. Earlier she enjoyed bowling ,for many years, on several teams with her friends. She loved watching basketball, especially Kansas. The Jayhawks lost a great fan in her passing. Doris also enjoyed cheering on Duke and North Carolina basketball. Doris enjoyed watching many sports on TV, including tennis, football, and whatever sport was on TV when her favorites were not on.
Following retirement, Doris stayed busy with her family, special friends while looking forward to their weekly breakfast outings. She also loved to spend her time traveling and enjoyed going out to dinner. While she loved to visit restaurants, Doris also knew her way around the kitchen and she was the world’s best cook. Everyone loved her homemade peanut brittle and looked forward to it around the holidays. Doris was such a special lady that will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Charles “Al” Reynolds; three sisters, Mary Virginia, Grace and Betty Jean and her brother, Wayne.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Alley, of Joplin; two granddaughters, Kelli Perigo (Andy) of Joplin and Elisa Bryant of Carl Junction; three great-grandchildren, Bryant Hanks, Rhett and Beckett Perigo; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parker Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Joplin Humane Society.
For those attending visitation and services, masks will be required and social distancing measures will be implemented.
