Lurene Clay

Lurene Dickey Clay, age 86, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch.

Lurene was born September 17, 1934 in Ringgold, Louisiana, daughter of the late Doc Dickey and Rosie Lee Weathers Smith and her stepfather, Carl Smith. She grew up in Joplin, and worked for years as a self employed caregiver for individuals in the Joplin area. She was especially known for her cooking. She was a longtime member of Handy Chapel AME Church of Joplin.

In addition to her parents, Lurene was preceded in death by her husband, Alton B. Clay.








Survivors include her sons, Robert Clay and wife Janice of Antioch, Tennessee, Richard Fowler and Mark Fowler both of Joplin; grandchildren, Malorie Clay, Robbin Haynes (Chris), Mischia Jackson, Mark Fowler, II, Michael Fowler (Abigail), Alton Clay (Lisa), Annaya Clay, Chad Clay, Phillip Clay, and Sam Fowler; great-grandchildren, Jachia Sanders, Tyshawn Sanders, Brandon Jackson, Jr., Landon Aldridge, Myiah Jackson, Tiana Fowler, Liliana Fowler, and Sayer Fowler; great-great-grandchildren, Nova Felker and Nehemiah Felker.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Willie Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Earl Palmer, Kenny Weathers, Kevin Jackson, Monte Weathers, David Jackson, and Anthony Weathers serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Jackson, William Jackson, Eugene Roscoe, Ray Foreman, and Steve Boyd.

Open visiting will be on Sunday from Noon to 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
