Larry Dick

Mr. Larry L. Dick, 75, of Jay, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on September 23, 1946, to Dale and Geneva Dick at their home in Indianola School District in rural Delaware County Oklahoma. He was one of twelve children.

As a young boy, he was small and agile and loved to climb trees, earning him the nickname of “Squirrel”. He was a graduate of Jay High School. 








Following graduation he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was one of the fortunate ones and got to go to Italy and Germany. While in the military he was a radio repairman. He also got to be in a movie, “The Devil Brigade” as a double for Cliff Robertson. He was a member of the Southwest City American Legion. 

When he was discharged in 1968, he married the love of his life, Linda Kay Pollan on June 8, 1968 and to this union two sons were born, James Evert and Jonathon Lewis. After marrying he moved to Claremore, Oklahoma and worked for Siftie, Inc. for about five years. He then became a brick layer and did carpentry work on the side. 

Later he became the custodian at the Southwest City School where he loved being involved with the students. He even did after school activities with them. He never met a stranger and loved playing the slot machine at the Southwest City Casino.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Dick on April 29, 2020; and brother in-laws, Jackie Reece, Rudy Herrington, Lucky Brown and Leon Dowdy.

Larry is survived by his two sons, James Evert Dick of Poteau, Oklahoma and John Lewis Dick of Commerce, Oklahoma; two grandsons, James Edward Dick and Campbell Dale Ridge Dick; four brothers, Clifford Dick and wife, Pat, of Jay, Ron Dick of Grants Pass, Oregon, Loyd Dick and wife, Quannah, of Fairland and Rodney Dick and wife, Sonya, of Jay; seven sisters, Mary Ellen Knight and husband, James, of Jay, Doris Reece of Southwest City, Dallene Herrington of Granby, Bucilla Brown of Jay, Sue Jenkins and husband, Gene, of Peggs, Oklahoma, Yolanda Hutchison and husband, Gene, of Jay and Debbie Mikulan and husband, John, of Sapulpa; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Missouri, with Craig Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Polson Cemetery. 

Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Rodney Dick, Loyd Dick, Bobby Knight, Kenneth Reece, Tommy Tapp, Anthony Lawson and Mason Tapp. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Southwest City Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
