Alvin Thomas

Alvin Joe Thomas, 80, of Carthage passed away 12:30 p.m.Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home. Alvin was born March 28, 1935 in Busch, Arkansas. He was the son of Joseph Elmer Thomas and Lydia Ash Thomas. During his life he spent time in California, New Mexico and Arkansas, but always considered Carthage his home. Alvin worked as a Machinist for Steadley until his retirement. He was a member of Joplin Full Gospel Church.

Alvin was united in marriage to Betty Filbeck on April 17, 1954 in Berryville, Arkansas. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Latina Puebla of Carthage, three sisters; Gladys A. Hearn of Willard, MO, Rowena Titus of Lane, KS and Betty Etchison and her husband Carl of Rogers, Ark and three Step Grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Kay Thomas and a granddaughter Natalia Puebla who both passed away in the May 22, 2011 tornado. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Howard Thomas and Harold Thomas.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Joplin Full Gospel Church in Joplin. Burial will be in Fullerton Cemetery in Carthage. Contributions may be made to the Joplin Full Gospel Church in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.ulmerfh.com.
